Ashtanga Yoga, a 5,000 year old discipline that explores, develops, and integrates the body, mind and spirit. Ashtanga Yoga purifies the body, the nervous system, the internal organs, and the mind through the use of vinyasa (breath with movement), asana (physical postures), deep breathing, and drishti (looking place or gaze). Practicing Yoga Asanas purifies the body and strengthens and gives flexibility to the body. Performing deep breathing purifies the nervous system. Drishti is the place where you look while performing asanas, or postures in order for you to concentrate on one specific place; also helps to stretch the eyes. The goal of incorporating drishti to your practice is for purification and stabilization of the mind. Frequent practice of Ashtanga Yoga promotes vitality, mental clarity, stress reduction, deep relaxation, weight loss, and overall health and wellness to the practitioner.

About this workshop:

Are you curious about Ashtanga Yoga? Have you been to a few classes, or even been practicing for a while and never fully practiced the primary series? Perhaps it is all new to you but the meditative flowing dynamic style of this yoga peaks your interest but most of all you want to find the right yoga practice that you can do it at home as much as you want. 


In this workshop you will have the chance to learn Ashtanga Yoga method and access to a daily practice for 30 days to experience the primary series from start to finish in a breakdown pose by pose with modification to support your strenght and flexibility then build up over time in a traditional yoga teaching "Mysore-Style". You will learn to unifying breath with movement known as "vinyasa" and furthering your practice of calming the mind through concentration. All participants will also be provided with a handout of the full primary series postures at the end of the workshop, and encouraged to begin exploring a self-directed practice. 


What is Primary Series? Yoga Chikitsa (योग चिकित्सा, Yoga Cikitsā) is the Sanksrit (संक्सृत्, Saṁksr̥t) name for the primary series and it can be translated as Yoga Therapy. Therefore this series purifies and heals the body. Primary Series is the first of six series of Ashtanga vinyasa yoga method designed and intended to calm the mind, but while doing that, it also focuses on cleansing the internal body and keeping the organs doing their jobs. Through twists, folds, and bandhas or locks (inner muscular lift), circulation of the blood and lymph systems improve, making the body better at eliminating toxins. The Ashtanga practice is a set sequence of postures performed in the same order every time. Each posture builds on positions that come before it, and in a way that is intended to build internal heat. Practitioner can practice in any Ashtanga class worldwide or independently when the method is taught. Ashtanga yoga is physically and mentally demanding, and while modifications can be made to accommodate each practitioner, it is considered a more traditional and high self-discipline yoga practice.

Note:

- To fully detoxify your body, we suggested not eat heavy meal at least 1 hour before and after practice and not drink any liquid at least 30 minutes before and after practice.
